We met Allstar Organics co-founder, Janet Brown, during the Just Us For Food Justice Bioneers day up in Marin. I really liked what she had to say about the impending crisis that is climate change and the small scale human solutions through the food we eat. This is a bit of leftover video from yesterday. I had some longer moments on campus that I wanted to share. I’ve given a more complete tour of my classroom. I didn’t know it at the time, but the sculpture students were conducting their annual iron pour later that evening. I’m sorry I didn’t stay to get video of that. I’ll have to put it on my calendar for next year!

This post, I have added the same embed code (image hyperlinked to video) in the post body as well as the custom field ‘embed’.
However, The template is setup to not parse html in body so the result will should be just the text i add in post body and not the image/video. But theimage/video will still appear according to the custom field ‘embed’ value. This approach can result in the rss enclosure getting automatically set without presentation conflicts. Still too hacky though.

So if i dont include a link to the video in the post body (here), then no enclosure is created.
I wonder how feedburner would handle this setup.

Regardless, I will make WP feeds include thumbs and enclosures automatically.

Show In A Box + SimplePie

Hey vloggers.
I decided to take a look at what the SIAB gang has been up to so I installed the SIAB theme with the latest WordPress.

The first thing I wanted to do, before i really delve into the customizations and plugins that make up the SIAB package…. was to install the recently released SimplePie Feed Parser Plugin for WordPress.

The SIAB peeps use a plugin called ‘VideoPress Recent Videos’ and I believe it was customized to work with other SIAB related modifications and enhancements.
Some problems have been being worked on.

I thought that it might be easier to simply parse your own feed and display thumbnails of your latest video entries instead of trying to inject logical database queries revolving around multiple moving parts (related plugins, image locations etc.) Also, by using a feed to parse instead of local mysql queries… you can also display recent videos from other “shows” that might be on your blogroll or whatever.

So, to demonstrate this…. I revived an old project site that was collecting digidust and am now using videobloggers.org as a SIAB demo site.

Since I dont have any videos posted here or any content… I am using David Howell’s RSS Feed to demonstrate a little “Recent Videos” block in the footer of this theme using SimplePie.

Will discuss this in more detail soon.
